Galap Crater on my kitchen table
This weekend I finally got back to my side project of visualizing digital terrain data. This time I leveraged Apple’s ARKit and put Mars’s Galap Crater on my kitchen table.
The length of the model in real life is about 10 km (over 6 miles), so the crater is huge, and those gullies in the crater wall, potentially formed by water, are also quite large.
First attempt to render a custom object in ARKit. This is Galap Crater on Mars (data from the HiRISE team). The length of the model is about 10 km (about 6 miles), so those gullies (not to mention the crater) are huge.
